Welcome to the Chase Up Allotment and the first of our series of Allotment Diaries!
As it is National Gardening Week, we thought it would be a great time to release our first diary entry. Over the next coming weeks, we will be sharing regular updates on what is ‘growing on’ at our Cannock Chase Allotment!
This year is the first proper year of the Chase Up Allotment and we were hoping to get lots of our lovely community involved in growing all sorts of fantastic things with us. However, as our community plans can’t happen due to the current Covid situation, we thought we would keep you updated every few weeks of how it is coming along.
We have dug over a number of beds and got rid of some of the weeds – there are two beds left to dig over! The herb and salad raised bed is coming along nicely, the salad leaves are starting show their leaves, while the chives are about to flower! There is no sign of the coriander germinating yet, so fingers crossed they start to come up in the next week or so. In another bed we have planted a number of rows of potatoes, again they have not broken through the soil as of yet, so we are keeping our eyes peeled for the first few leaves. In the polytunnel, we have beans that are just starting to pop their heads through the soil and sunflowers that are growing nicely!
In one of our lovely volunteers greenhouse we also have a range of courgettes, squashes and lots of other exciting vegetables growing and will be planted out in coming weeks.
Are you a seasoned grower, or are trying to grow veggies for the first time? Let us know how you are getting on and any helpful tips will be much appreciated! Message us through our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/IhlCannockChase/ or email – chaseup@ihlmail.org
